The experience at Canyon Vista was remarkable!

Unexpected Medical Situation: Seven months into her first pregnancy, Groth faced an alarming situation. After a long day of physical labor, she developed severe back pain and extreme shortness of breath. When her condition didn’t improve after an hour, her mother feared pre-term labor and urged her to go to Canyon Vista Medical Center.
Choosing Canyon Vista: The decision to go to Canyon Vista was influenced by its geographic proximity and immediate availability of care. Although her primary and high-risk OB providers are located in Tucson due to her age and other health factors, she was reassured by Canyon Vista's CEO, Shaun Phillips, that the hospital could assess, stabilize, and coordinate care with her delivery hospital in Tucson in an emergency. This assurance made her feel comfortable seeking care at Canyon Vista instead of attempting the longer journey to Tucson.
Exceptional Hospital Experience: The experience at Canyon Vista surpassed her expectations. Upon learning of their imminent arrival, the hospital staff prepared promptly. Within three minutes of their arrival, two OB nurses were ready to assess her condition. Dr. Brainard, the on-call OB/GYN, arrived within 45 minutes, conducted a thorough examination, and confirmed she was not in pre-term labor. Dr. Brainard provided straightforward advice on physical activity during pregnancy, shared personal experiences, and reassured her with an exceptional bedside manner. The discharge process was seamless, with engaging and supportive nurses that ensured a positive end to their visit, which lasted less than four hours.
Lasting Impressions: Canyon Vista’s efficient information relay between departments and the attentive, well-informed, and supportive staff left a lasting impression on Groth. The seamless coordination and compassionate care highlighted the hospital’s commitment to patient well-being.
Life-Changing Lessons: This experience taught Groth to be more mindful of her physical activities. She now exercises with body weight or reduced weights and is deliberate in her movements. At work, she is careful about her posture and movements to avoid strain and injury, understanding that even small, thoughtless actions can have significant consequences during pregnancy.
Continuing Trust in Canyon Vista: The positive experience led Groth and her husband to enroll in Canyon Vista’s prenatal class rather than traveling to Tucson. The class, taught by Kylie Bourland, provided extensive information and resources without instilling fear or worry. Additionally, lactation consultant Rhegan Derfus offered invaluable insights into breastfeeding and pumping. The couple appreciated the instructors' expertise, the take-home literature, and the complimentary items provided.
Background and Professional Life: Callie Groth, a 36-year-old female entrepreneur, has made significant strides in the aerospace & defense, agriculture, and clothing & apparel industries. She also serves as an Entrepreneur in Residence at the University of Arizona's McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship and is the 2024 President of the University South Foundation. When not working, Groth enjoys horseback riding and working on her ranch. Raised in Sierra Vista, she returned to the area in 2021 after completing her undergraduate and graduate studies.
Callie Groth’s experience at Canyon Vista Medical Center underscores the hospital's dedication to providing exceptional care close to home. From the quick and thorough response during an emergency to the comprehensive prenatal education, Canyon Vista continues their mission of Making Communities Healthier!
