CVMC Receives 2024 AzHHA Quality Award
October 29, 2024
Canyon Vista Medical Center (CVMC) is proud to share we have been recognized as a 2024 AzHHA Quality Award winner.
The Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association (AzHHA) announced the winners of its Second Annual Quality Awards at the 2024 Quality Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024. These awards were created to recognize Arizona’s leaders who are committed to advancing healthcare through exceptional quality performance, community engagement and a culture of continuous improvement.
CVMC received the Maternal Health Innovation Award in the critical access hospital/rural hospital classification. The Maternal Health Innovation Award is to recognize a commitment to advancing maternal health through collaboration, innovation and evidence-based practices.
“The quality of submissions and winners reflect the tremendous work that is happening in our communities across the state,” said Ann-Marie Alameddin, president and CEO of AzHHA. “Congratulations to our award winners who are working every day to pursue excellence in quality and patient safety.”
To be considered for this award, Canyon Vista Medical Center submitted its project, OB Hemorrhage Improvement, which led to strengthening of the process regarding obstetric hemorrhage prevention and management. Over a six-month period, CVMC reduced its obstetric hemorrhage rate from an average of 13.5% in late 2023 to 8.6% in early 2024. This was the result of the quality improvement project being updated in September of 2023 with the addition of the Jada System in the hemorrhage cart, which enhanced the tools available for managing obstetric hemorrhages. The obstetric hemorrhage and prevention plan was recently reevaluated, to now place an obstetric hemorrhage cart in the emergency services department. Staff and provider feedback has been highly positive, and these process improvements have become standard practice at CVMC, helping to sustain and build on the progress made.
“This recognition highlights our commitment to improving maternal health and safety,” said Shaun Phillips, CEO of Canyon Vista Medical Center. “Reducing postpartum bleeding is essential to safeguarding mothers’ health after birth. Their work with practice standardization, diligent data collection, process improvement, and submission to AZHHA has made Yssa Encinas and Marie Iverson instrumental in this achievement. This award is a true testament to the outstanding efforts of our entire OB team, who are dedicated to driving best practices that ensure the health and well-being of both mom and baby.”
